Claudia Anderson is an Assistant Professor at the College of Criminology & Criminal Justice, Florida State University. Her research focuses on punishment, incarceration, and correctional policies, with a particular interest in theories of crime and social control. She holds a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati (2022) and a B.A. in Psychology from Loyola University Chicago (2017).
Anderson has received the 2019 National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Her work explores topics such as supermax prisons, pretrial detention, solitary confinement, and the intersection of race and criminal justice policies. She has published extensively in journals like Justice Quarterly, Punishment & Society, and Criminology & Public Policy.
Her research often addresses systemic issues in criminal justice, including the impact of restrictive housing on inmates, disparities in prison segregation, and the psychological consequences of punitive measures. She is also involved in policy analysis, aiming to inform evidence-based reforms in correctional practices.
Anderson’s recent projects include studies on the effects of supermax prisons on community disorder, the punitive nature of pretrial detention, and the unintended consequences of race-neutral policies in prisons. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis to advance understanding of criminal justice outcomes.
