Hanjung Lee is a Professor of English Linguistics at Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU), specializing in syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and their interfaces. He holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Stanford University (2001) and has held academic appointments at SKKU since 2004, advancing from Assistant Professor to his current rank. His research integrates experimental and theoretical linguistics, focusing on case systems, dative constructions, and differential subject marking, with a strong emphasis on cross-linguistic and psycholinguistic approaches.
Key research themes include case ellipsis in Korean, the causative alternation in English, and the interplay between syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. He has delivered plenary talks at conferences like the International Conference on Language and Communication (2024) and contributed to edited volumes such as The Handbook of Korean Linguistics (2015). He leads the 'Interaction English Studies' project under the Brain Korea 21 FOUR initiative and has secured multiple grants, including Mid-Career Research Grants from the National Research Foundation of Korea.
Prof. Lee’s professional activities include roles as President-elect (2025-2026) of the Linguistic Society of Korea and advisory board memberships, including the Center for the Study of Language and Information (CSLI) at Stanford. His work bridges formal syntax, experimental methods, and computational modeling, addressing language variation and cognitive processing.
