معرفی
Hana Im is a Professor in the Department of Integrative Bioscience and Biotechnology at Sejong University. With a career spanning over two decades, her research focuses on protein misfolding diseases, protein engineering, and survival mechanisms in extreme environments. She has held academic and research positions at institutions including the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology and the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
- Education: Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin (1993), B.S. in Molecular Biology from Seoul National University (1986)
- Current Position: Professor at Sejong University (2000.09–present)
- Prior Roles: Senior Research Associate at Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (1996–2000), Postdoctoral Associate at University of Wisconsin at Madison (1993–1995)
Her research bridges molecular biology and materials science, with a focus on:
- Pathology of protein misfolding diseases like Parkinson’s and serpinopathies
- Protein engineering to design therapeutic agents
- Cellular survival strategies in freezing environments
- Development of corrosion-resistant materials for lithium-ion batteries
Recent publications highlight her interdisciplinary work. Key areas include neuroscience, antioxidant mechanisms, and battery technology. An award-winning article on α1-antitrypsin protein folding was recommended by Faculty 1000.
