Hamilton Bean is Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Communication at the University of Colorado Denver's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, also serving as Director of the Strategic Communication Certificate Program. Previously, he directed the International Studies Program from 2015 to 2024 and maintains active international affiliations including non-resident fellowship at the U.S. Joint Special Operations University (JSOU) since 2022.
His academic credentials include:

- MA in International Communication from American University
- MBA in Management of Global Information Technology from American University
- BA in History from University of New Mexico
Bean specializes in communication-security interfaces with concentrated expertise in mobile public alert systems, particularly Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) message optimization. His research bridges academic theory and practical implementation through U.S. Department of Homeland Security-funded projects, FEMA and NOAA research grants, and direct consultation for federal agencies including contributions to FCC rulemakings. This work positions him at the critical intersection of emergency management, human-computer interaction, and policy development for disaster response systems.
His scholarly recognition includes:
