معرفی
Dr. Hamid Ait Abderrahmane is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Nuclear Engineering at Khalifa University. His research spans fluid mechanics, fluid-structure interactions, and hydrodynamic instabilities, with applications across multiple industries including renewable energy, oil and gas, aerospace, and biomedical fields.
Education:
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Concordia University (Canada), 2009
Dr. Ait Abderrahmane's research focuses on tackling fundamental fluid dynamics problems through experimental, mathematical, and numerical approaches. His work centers on four key areas: fluid-structure interactions, swirling flows, interfacial flows, and multiphase flows in porous media. He has recently expanded his expertise into data-driven modeling and machine learning applications for fluid dynamics, developing methods to discover physical laws from observational data. His research approach involves synthesizing problems into canonical forms and iterating between experiment and theory to unravel physical system dynamics.
Dr. Ait Abderrahmane has published over 50 research papers in top journals including Physical Review Letters, Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physics of Fluids, and Physical Review E, plus 50+ conference proceedings. His work demonstrates consistent excellence in fluid dynamics research with emphasis on both theoretical foundations and practical applications.
He has received several prestigious awards including two Postdoctoral Scholarships in Canada and Quebec, recognition as one of the top 10 discoveries of 2009 by Quebec Science Magazine, and the Milton Van Dyke Award for Gallery of Fluid Motion in 2010.
Dr. Ait Abderrahmane currently supervises multiple graduate students including PhD candidates Ramanzani S. Kalule and Yuxi Zang, and Master's students Antim Gupta and Shaikh Abdullah Rais Ahmed Shaikh Rais Ahmed Shaikh. He teaches advanced courses including Advanced Fluid Mechanics, Computational Methods for Mechanical Engineers, Finite Element Analysis, and Introduction to Hydrodynamic Stability.
His laboratory conducts cutting-edge research on point vortices, tornado modeling, galaxy rotational curve experiments, and AI/ML approaches to discovering physical laws. The lab utilizes spectral analysis techniques including proper orthogonal and dynamical mode decomposition, finite-time Lyapunov exponent analysis, and Poincaré map techniques for flow visualization and mixing analysis.
