Halis Akturk, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, School of Medicine, within the Department of Pediatrics-Barbara Davis Center. He completed his medical degree at Istanbul University (2007), followed by an internship at Cleveland Clinic (2013), residency at Creighton University (2014), and fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Mayo Clinic (2016).
His research focuses on Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, with specialized interests in insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitoring, artificial pancreas systems, hybrid closed-loop technologies, effects of cannabis on diabetes, and immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced diabetes. Key areas include diabetes technology innovation, glycemic outcomes optimization, and immunotherapy-related endocrine complications.
Dr. Akturk's recent publications emphasize advancements in diabetes technology, real-world efficacy of automated insulin delivery systems, and novel therapeutics. His work consistently explores the intersection of technology adoption (CGM, pumps, closed-loop systems) with clinical outcomes. A significant thematic focus is identifying and mitigating diabetes complications through early technology intervention and understanding metabolic implications of pharmacological agents.
He maintains active clinical practice at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes Adult Clinic and holds hospital privileges at the University of Colorado Hospital.
