Assoc. Prof. Dr. Halil Şimşek is a faculty member at Bingöl University Health Services Vocational School, holding the position of Associate Professor in Physiology Science since 2021. He has served in multiple administrative roles including Manager of the Health Services Vocational School (2009-2012, 2016-2017, and 2024-2025), Advisor to the Rector (2009-2012), Director of the Health Sciences Institute (2017-2020), and Department Head of Medical Services and Technology (2016-2024).
Dr. Şimşek earned his veterinary medicine degree from Fırat University in 1994 and completed his doctorate in Physiology from Fırat University Health Sciences Institute in 2002. He worked as a Specialist Veterinarian at the Elazığ Veterinary Control and Research Institute from 1998 to 2009 and served as a Visiting Professor at the University of Texas San Antonio Health Sciences Center in 2011.
His research focuses on physiology, antioxidants, veterinary medicine, apitherapy, toxicology, exercise physiology, and oxidative stress. Dr. Şimşek has published extensively on the biochemical and physiological effects of natural compounds, particularly those derived from bee products like royal jelly and apilarnil. His recent work examines their protective effects against arsenic toxicity, exercise-induced liver injury, and radiation exposure in animal models, demonstrating significant contributions to understanding natural protective mechanisms against environmental stressors.
- Research Impact: Over 1010 citations, h-index of 15, i10-index of 22
- Supervision: 2 doctoral and 2 master's students completed in recent years
- Funding: Multiple grants from TÜBİTAK, Ministry of Agriculture, and IFAD
Dr. Şimşek has received the TÜBİTAK Scientific Publication Award 14 times and Bingöl University's academic achievement awards. His work bridges veterinary medicine, human physiology, and natural product research, contributing valuable insights into the therapeutic potential of bee products and antioxidant mechanisms.
