Haizheng Li is the Interim Chair and Professor in the School of Economics at Georgia Institute of Technology, affiliated with the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Colorado-Boulder (1997), alongside master's degrees from the University of Colorado and Renmin University of China, and a B.E. from Huazhong University of Science & Technology.
His research focuses on applied econometrics, labor economics, and the Chinese economy, with an emphasis on human capital measurement, labor market effects, and regional development. He has authored over 50 publications and secured grants from the Sloan Foundation and Chinese institutions. Notable roles include Chair of the Expert Supervising Board for Large Data Projects at China National Natural Science Foundation and President of the Chinese Economists Society (2006–2007).
Awarded multiple recognitions, including the 2021 Mary S. Inman Faculty Excellence Award and Gold Star Research Awards, his work bridges economic theory and policy, particularly in China’s transition and education systems. He teaches courses in econometrics, labor economics, and economic forecasting.
Li has advised numerous Chinese government agencies and served in university governance roles, including Director of the Georgia Tech-Shanghai Summer Program and Academic Senate Representative. His research spans topics like R&D investment, education policy, and pandemic impacts on labor markets.
