Haiyan Liu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Department of Statistics & Probability at Michigan State University (MSU). She holds a PhD in Actuarial Science from the University of Waterloo (2017), an M.S. in Probability and Statistics from Central South University (2013), and a B.S. in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics from Central South University (2011).
Her research focuses on risk measurement and management, reinsurance strategies, applied probability, and model uncertainty. Her work addresses challenges in optimal reinsurance design, risk sharing mechanisms under heterogeneous beliefs, and quantile-based approaches to risk analysis. She has presented her research at major conferences such as the Actuarial Research Conference and the International Congress on Insurance: Mathematics and Economics.
Liu has taught courses at MSU including MTH 361, MTH 360, STT 455, and STT 442. Her academic contributions span theoretical and applied actuarial science, with a focus on advancing methodologies for managing model uncertainty in financial and insurance contexts.
