Haejeong Hazel Hahn is a Professor and Department Chair of History at Seattle University's College of Arts & Sciences. She holds affiliate roles in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; Asian Studies; and Film and Media Studies. Born in Seoul, Korea, she earned her Ph.D. in History from UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on modern cultural and urban history, specializing in France, Vietnam, and Cambodia. She has held the prestigious Chateaubriand Fellowship for doctoral research.
Her scholarly works include Scenes of Parisian Modernity (2009), Architecturalized Asia (2013), and Cross-Cultural Exchange and the Colonial Imaginary (2019). Her research explores colonial representations, urban development, and cultural artifacts like travelogues, illustrated press, and geographic texts.
Hahn teaches courses on modern Europe, colonial cities, Southeast Asian history, and film studies. She contributes to interdisciplinary projects such as the Mellon Foundation-funded initiative on race and resistance. Her work bridges European and Southeast Asian colonial histories through architectural, urban, and cultural lenses.
