Hae Hong serves as a Casual Academic and Research Assistant in the Korean Discipline of the School of Languages and Cultures at The University of Queensland, where she contributes to language instruction and research initiatives focused on Korean educational contexts.
She earned her Honours degree from The University of Queensland in 2021, completing a thesis that critically examined cultural representations in South Korean English textbooks.
Her research centers on applying Critical Discourse Analysis to investigate embedded cultural ideologies within English language textbooks across both North and South Korea. This work intersects sociolinguistics, cultural studies, and language pedagogy, revealing how educational materials construct national identities and values. Her methodology emphasizes textual analysis of curriculum materials to uncover power dynamics in language education.
Ms. Hong's 2023 project extends this analysis to North Korean educational contexts, demonstrating consistent scholarly focus on ideological representation in language learning resources across the Korean peninsula.
