Ha Hong Bui is a Professor and ARC Future Fellow in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Monash University, Australia. He founded the Monash Computational Geomechanics (MCG) Lab, focusing on developing computational tools for multi-physics problems in geomechanics, particularly bridging scales in modeling material failure. His research emphasizes balanced efficiency-mechanism approaches for real-world applications.
His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to resilient infrastructure and disaster risk reduction. Key areas include constitutive modeling of rocks, fracture mechanics in quasi-brittle materials, and SPH frameworks for geohazards. He serves as Editor of Computers & Geotechnics and Associate Editor of European Journal of Environmental and Civil Engineering, with editorial roles in multiple journals.
Bui leads projects like the Digital Twins for Coastal Resilience in Hong Kong (2025–2029) and Mud Pumping under Rail Tracks (2024–2027). Recent research includes computational models for unsaturated soils, landslide risk assessment, and fatigue behavior of cemented materials. His awards include the 2021 ALERT Research Medal and ARC Future Fellowship.
