معرفی
Prof. HW de Regt is a Professor and Director at the Institute for Science in Society (Radboud University). His research focuses on scientific understanding, exploring how experts achieve it through philosophical analysis and historical case studies. He developed a contextual theory of scientific understanding, recognizing disciplinary and historical variations in criteria for understanding. Current research extends to AI's impact on science, public understanding, and interdisciplinary communication.
Education:
- Teaches courses in Philosophy of the Natural Sciences, Science and Values, and Philosophy of Science Methods.
Research Interests:
De Regt's work bridges philosophy, science, and society. His monograph Understanding Scientific Understanding (2017) won the Lakatos Award (2019). He investigates how tools like AI reshape scientific inquiry, how publics engage with science, and how interdisciplinary collaboration fosters understanding. Methodologically, he combines conceptual analysis with empirical studies of scientific practices.
Recent Trends in Publications:
Recent work examines AI's role in scientific discovery, teaching philosophy of science across disciplines, and analyzing how values shape scientific aims. His articles frequently address epistemological questions in contemporary science, emphasizing contextual factors in understanding.
