HOANG Truong Giang

HOANG Truong Giang is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the National University of Singapore (NUS), part of the Faculty of Science. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota (2012) and a B.Sc. (First Class Honors) from NUS (2004). His research focuses on enhancing chemistry education through innovative, sustainable experiments in organic and medicinal chemistry, integrating green chemistry principles and modern technologies. He has coordinated courses such as Chemistry in Society and Industry Seminar, and contributed to programs like the NUS Chemistry Internship Programme.

His teaching excellence is recognized through multiple awards: Faculty Teaching Excellence Awards in 2015, 2021, and 2023. He has held administrative roles including Assistant Head, Chair of the Department Outreach Committee, and Co-chair of the Teaching Excellence Committee (2021–2024). His research group develops problem-based learning modules, such as a Sonogashira coupling project and experiments using the Diels-Alder reaction with tetraphenylcyclopentadienone, fostering critical thinking and practical skills in students.

His publications span chemistry education, organic synthesis, and catalytic methodologies. He mentors the Singapore International Chemistry Olympiad Team and emphasizes sustainable practices in chemical education.
