CHUI Sin Yin, Stephen

CHUI Sin Yin, Stephen is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore (NUS). He holds a PhD from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (1999) and has extensive postdoctoral/research experience at the University of Hong Kong (2001-2011). His research focuses on crystallography for chemical education and functional solids, emphasizing the integration of experimental databases like CSD and ICSD-FIZ into pedagogical tools. He also explores structure-property relationships in co-crystals and metal-organic frameworks with applications in gas adsorption and optoelectronics.

Teaching contributions include course coordination for CM5192 Capstone Project and instruction in CM2112 Chemistry of Elements (Lab), CM3111 Inorganic and Organometallic Chemistry, and CM5212 Crystal Engineering. He received the Faculty Teaching Excellent Award AY2021/2022.

CHUI is actively involved in chemistry education outreach, serving on the Chemistry Outreach Committee and organizing ChemDay Camp since 2013. He has mentored Singapore's International Chemistry Olympiad teams (2014–2023) and contributed to problem design for theoretical exams.

His research has led to over 10 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals like J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., focusing on materials synthesis, crystal structure determination, and functional material properties.
