HENRY McMAHON is a Lecturer and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Art History at Rice University. His research focuses on postwar French painting, interwar art, and the intersection of art with cultural and political history. He holds a BA in English from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study.

Research Interests: McMahon’s work examines graphic commonplaces in postwar French painting, early 19th-century copperplate engraving in the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, and Vichy France’s use of artworks created by imprisoned soldiers. His dissertation, *“Perfecting Terror: Jean Fautrier, Asger Jorn, and the Appeal to Everyday Language in Postwar French Painting,”* redefines post-WWII artistic innovation.
