Costas Hadjiyiannis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Cyprus, affiliated with the School of Economics and Management. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Cambridge (1992), an MA in Economics from the same institution (1996), an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1994), an MSc in Economics (1997), and a PhD in Economics (1999) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His research focuses on International Trade, Environmental Economics, Industrial Organization, and Game Theory, with an emphasis on topics like regional trade agreements, environmental policy design, and tax competition. His recent work explores themes such as nationalism's impact on trade policies, cross-border environmental challenges, and cooperative strategies in global economic frameworks. He has been a faculty member at the University of Cyprus since 1999. His articles analyze trade liberalization dynamics, conflict economics, and the interplay between environmental and fiscal policies.
Research interests include the economic implications of trade policies, environmental governance mechanisms, and the structural impacts of regional economic integration. His work often employs game-theoretic models to explore strategic interactions between nations in trade, environmental, and tax policy domains. Notable contributions address how fairness and reciprocity influence international agreements and how cross-border pollution interacts with tax systems.
