H. Robert Baker

H. Robert Baker is a Professor in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgia State University, where he has served on the faculty since 2006. His research focuses on the intersection of slavery, legal history, and constitutional development in the United States. He has authored two significant books: The Rescue of Joshua Glover: A Fugitive Slave, the Constitution, and the Coming of the Civil War (Ohio University Press, 2007) and Prigg v. Pennsylvania: Slavery, the Supreme Court, and the Ambivalent Constitution (University Press of Kansas, 2012).

As Director of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Baker plays a pivotal role in academic administration and serves as advisor to history majors pursuing a Pre-Law concentration. His work examines the influence of historical consciousness on constitutional thinking and explores mechanisms of constitutional change over time.
