H. Mao

Dr. H. Mao is an Assistant Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Head Mechanics at the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Western University. He holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Wayne State University and a B.E.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Dr. Mao’s research focuses on understanding mechanisms of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and developing engineering solutions for brain protection. His work spans impact biomechanics, vehicle safety systems for occupant and pedestrian protection, and pediatric biomechanics. He previously led a blast-induced TBI research program as a Research Scientist and contributed to the development of the Global Human Body Models Consortium (GHBMC) head model during his postgraduate research.

His research is supported by the Canada Research Chair program, aiming to advance knowledge in mild TBI and improve mechanical structures for human safety. Dr. Mao’s industry experience includes three years as a Product Development Engineer in the automotive sector, where he received the Chairman’s Merit Award.
