Professor H. Justin Pace is an Assistant Professor in the School of Accounting, Finance, Information Systems, and Business Law at Western Carolina University’s College of Business. A WNC native and WCU alumnus, he returned to WCU in 2020 after a diverse career including work at the world's largest business consultancy, graduating with honors from Northwestern Law, clerkships for federal judges, and legal practice in bankruptcy and commercial litigation. Licensed in North Carolina and Texas, he teaches courses such as Legal and Ethical Environment of Business, Business Organization, and Labor and Employment Law.
Professor Pace holds a JD from Northwestern University, an MAcc from North Carolina State University, and a BSBA from Western Carolina University. His research focuses on fiduciary obligation law, corporation and LLC law, and comparative state law. His work has been cited by the Nevada Supreme Court and leading LLC treatises, and published in journals like the Wisconsin Law Review and American Business Law Journal.
His research explores topics such as corporate transparency, legal frameworks for alcohol/marijuana regulation, and director liability under the Caremark doctrine. He has written extensively on cybersecurity governance, climate governance, and post-pandemic audit committee challenges.
Outside academia, he enjoys reading, family time, and outdoor activities. His teaching spans undergraduate, MBA, and law school levels, covering securities regulation, corporate law, and legal ethics.
