H. Irving Grousbeck is the MBA Class of 1980 Adjunct Professor of Management at Stanford Graduate School of Business (GSB). He co-directed the Center for Entrepreneurial Studies at Stanford GSB from 1996 to 2013. His academic background includes an MBA from Harvard University (1960) and BA from Amherst College (1956), along with honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees from Menlo College (2016) and Amherst College (2000).
Grousbeck’s career spans entrepreneurship, academia, and professional sports. He co-founded Continental Cablevision (later Media One) in 1964, serving as President until 1980 and Chairman until 1985. He has held leadership roles on numerous corporate and nonprofit boards, including Asurion Corp., Boston Celtics (principal owner), and Newton-Wellesley Hospital. His teaching focuses on entrepreneurship, leadership, and managing difficult conversations, with courses such as Conversations in Management and collaborations with Stanford Medical School.
Awards include the Stanford GSB MBA Distinguished Teaching Award (1987) and recognition for contributions to entrepreneurship education. His research and publications emphasize leadership ethics, organizational dynamics, and the practical challenges of entrepreneurship.
