Gülnur Arabaci is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Sakarya University's Faculty of Science. She has been affiliated with the university since 1993, progressing from Research Assistant to her current role. Her academic journey includes a doctorate from Ohio State University focused on protein tyrosine phosphatases and a foundational degree from Istanbul Technical University.
Education:
- Doctorate, Ohio State University (1997–2001): Thesis on photoreversible covalent inhibitors for protein tyrosine phosphatases.
- Licence, Istanbul Technical University (1987–1991): Chemistry major.
Her research centers on enzymology, protein purification, and antioxidant studies, with emphasis on industrial and biomedical applications. She explores enzyme kinetics, immobilization techniques, and plant-derived bioactive compounds. Recent work includes phthalocyanines for antimicrobial/antioxidant uses and enzyme-based biosensors.
Arabaci's publications (H-index: 12) predominantly address enzyme applications, such as textile dye degradation, drug delivery systems, and plant enzyme characterization. Trends show a shift toward nanomaterials and computational biochemistry in recent years.
She has supervised 11 master's students, with theses on plant enzymes (e.g., polyphenol oxidase, peroxidase) and antioxidant activities. She actively contributes to research projects, including enzyme applications in detergents and textiles.
Collaborations involve interdisciplinary teams focusing on biochemistry, materials science, and environmental biotechnology. Lab activities emphasize enzyme purification and kinetic studies.
