Dr. Gülay Gürkan is a Researcher at the University of Hertfordshire, affiliated with the Centre for Astrophysics Research (CAR), School of Physics, Engineering & Computer Science, and the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Mathematics. Her work focuses on understanding galaxy formation and evolution, particularly through the study of active galactic nuclei (AGN), radio observations of quasars, and star formation processes. She leads the Polarisation Sky Survey of the Universe's Magnetism (POSSUM) and contributes to major radio surveys like the Evolutionary Map of the Universe.
Her research interests include accretion modes in radio-loud AGN, AGN-host galaxy interactions, binary/dual AGN systems, and faint source populations. Collaborations span global institutions, leveraging facilities like LOFAR and sensitive radio telescopes.
Dr. Gürkan has published extensively since 2010, with over 60 peer-reviewed articles. Her recent work emphasizes high-resolution radio observations and their implications for cosmic magnetism, galaxy evolution, and AGN dynamics. She actively participates in international surveys, contributing to both observational frameworks and theoretical interpretations of extragalactic phenomena.
