Göran Sahlén is a Professor at Halmstad University's Academy of Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Sustainability. His research focuses on understanding how human-driven processes (e.g., climate change, land use) interact with natural ecological systems, using dragonflies (Odonata) as model organisms. Key projects include studies on lake acidification impacts in Sweden, climate adaptation in northern species, and biodiversity assessments in Brazilian ecosystems.
He leads projects analyzing species community dynamics in Swedish and Brazilian wetlands and collaborates with American researchers on Arctic dragonfly adaptations. He serves on the Swedish Red List committee for limnic invertebrates and contributes to global dragonfly conservation through IUCN initiatives. Recent publications emphasize land-use impacts on biodiversity, dragonfly morphology, and genetic diversity in circumpolar species.
His work bridges ecology, conservation, and applied research, with a focus on translating scientific findings into policy and conservation strategies. Major contributions include advancing methodologies for volunteer-based biodiversity monitoring and demonstrating dragonflies' role as indicators of environmental health.
