Göran Bolin is a Professor of Media and Communication Studies at Södertörn University, Stockholm, with a distinguished career in interdisciplinary research spanning media, communication, cultural studies, and sociology. He has played a leading role in advancing media sociology in the Nordic region and beyond.
His research interests include mediatization, datatization, cultural production, digital markets, media generations, collective memory, and cultural identity. Since the 1990s, he has led influential research projects on youth culture, television production, media landscape transformation, nation branding, and social media surveillance.
Bolin holds significant leadership positions in international academic networks:
- Head of the Film, Media and Visual Studies Section, Academia Europaea
- Member of the Board, European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA)
He has served as a visiting professor at the University of Bremen (2018), University of Augsburg (2016), Catholic University of Portugal (2013), and University of Westminster (2006).
His collaborative work with the University of Tartu since the early 2000s has greatly contributed to the international recognition of Estonian media sociology.

- Named Honorary Doctor of Media Sociology by the University of Tartu in 2022
Bolin received his PhD from Stockholm University and has been based at Södertörn University since 1998, where he was promoted to full professor in 2004. He continues to be an active and influential figure in global media and communication research.
