معرفی
Gye-Seon Lee is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Seoul National University since March 2022. Previously, Lee served as an Assistant Professor at Sungkyunkwan University from September 2019 to February 2022. Lee's academic journey includes postdoctoral positions at Universität Heidelberg (2012-2019), Seoul National University (2010-2012), and Institut Henri Poincaré (2012), along with visiting research at MSRI and University of Melbourne.
Lee's educational background includes:
- PhD in Mathematics from KAIST (2006-2010), with thesis on "Projective deformations of hyperbolic Coxeter 3-orbifolds" under advisor Suhyoung Choi
- MSc in Mathematics from KAIST (2002-2006), with thesis on "A study on trisecants of spatial graphs" under advisor Gyo Taek Jin
- BSc in Mathematics (Summa cum laude) from KAIST (1998-2002)
Lee's research focuses on Geometry and Topology, particularly geometric structures on manifolds and orbifolds, representation varieties, hyperbolic and real projective geometry, discrete subgroups of Lie groups, and Coxeter groups. This research program investigates the interplay between geometric structures, group representations, and topological properties of manifolds, with particular emphasis on convex projective structures and Anosov representations.
Lee's publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to geometric topology and representation theory, with recent work focusing on convex cocompactness for Coxeter groups, Hitchin components for orbifolds, and Anosov representations. There's a clear trajectory from foundational work on projective deformations of hyperbolic Coxeter orbifolds to more recent investigations of Anosov triangle reflection groups and Borel Anosov representations with positivity.
Scientific recognition includes:
- Klaus-Georg und Sigrid Hengstberger-Preis from Universität Heidelberg (2014)
Lee actively mentors students and has secured significant research funding, including multiple NRF grants from the National Research Foundation of Korea and a Samsung Science & Technology Foundation grant. Lee serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society and organizes several seminar series, demonstrating active engagement in the mathematical community.
Lee leads the Groups, Geometry and Topology Seminar, the PS-SNU Geometry/Topology Online Seminar, and the Exchange Seminar, fostering collaborative research environments that connect mathematicians across institutions and countries. These seminar series cover advanced topics in geometric group theory, Teichmüller theory, and representation varieties, reflecting Lee's research interests and leadership in the field.
