Professor Gwénola Sebaux holds a position at the Université Catholique de l'Ouest (UCO) Angers within the Faculty of Humanities. She obtained her PhD in Germanic Studies from the University of Nantes (2001) and earned Accreditation to Direct Research (HDR) in 2012. Her academic leadership includes serving as Vice-Dean for Research (2018-2022) and Academic Director of the LEA Master programs LACISE and LARISP.
Her research focuses on contemporary German migration policies, historical migrations, national identity formation, and the post-WWII German expellee communities. Key areas include the migration of Spätaussiedler, citizenship debates, and memory studies related to German minorities in Central/Eastern Europe.
Recent work addresses the 2015 refugee crisis in Germany, post-Merkel migration policy, and transnational identity dynamics. She has organized major conferences like 'Migrations, mobilizations, and ethics' (2024) and 'West German Cinema of the Long 1950s' (2023).
Professor Sebaux contributes to scholarly journals such as Allemagne d'aujourd'hui and Cahiers du MIMMOC. She leads research projects including MOBIL (mobility/migration), CITƐR (citizenship frontiers), and REPAJE (youth migration narratives). Her teaching includes modules on German political civilization and migration methodologies.
