Gwyn Campbell

Gwyn Campbell is Professor of History and Director of McGill's Indian Ocean World Centre. Born in Madagascar, he specializes in economic-environmental history of the Indian Ocean region from 2000 BCE to present.

Campbell's research examines slavery networks, migration diasporas, and early global economies. His publications include Africa and the Indian Ocean World from Early Times to Circa 1900 and studies on Malagasy environmental history.

He leads projects on human-environment interactions, bonded labor systems, and commodity trades across the Indian Ocean world.
