Guy Terwagne is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Namur, with a distinguished career spanning over four decades since earning his Doctor of Science degree in 1983. His academic leadership includes serving as Director of the Physics Department (2010), President of the Physics Section Group (2008-2009), and President of the teaching committee of the Department of Physics (2008-2009).
Terwagne's research focuses on nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics, ion/radiation-matter interactions, materials science, and analysis of light elements. His work demonstrates significant expertise in ion beam analysis techniques and their applications across multiple scientific domains. He has maintained continuous research activity since the 1980s, with publications appearing consistently through 2024.
His recent publications (2022-2024) reveal a sustained focus on ion implantation techniques, semiconductor materials analysis, gamma-ray detection systems, and the application of nuclear physics to astrophysical problems. The research shows strong interdisciplinary connections between fundamental nuclear physics and practical materials engineering applications, particularly in silicon-germanium systems and optical coatings.
Terwagne has held numerous prestigious committee positions including membership on the Belgian National ESO Committee (BNEC), the office and scientific committee of the doctoral school 'Physics and Astrophysics,' and the international committee of IUVSTA (Surface Science division). He served as President of the scientific committee for the IBAF-2010 conference and as a member of the User's Selection Panel for the European SPIRIT program.
His current research portfolio includes the LoDeGaN project (2021-2026) developing low-noise gamma detection systems, high-efficiency solar cell development (since 2015), nuclear astrophysics studies (since 2000), nuclear reaction cross-section measurements (since 1992), and ion implantation research (since 1984). These long-term projects demonstrate remarkable continuity in his research vision while adapting to evolving technological capabilities.
