معرفی
Dr. Guy Dumont is a Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of British Columbia (UBC), with a cross-appointment in the Department of Anesthesia, Pharmacology, and Therapeutics. He co-directs the Electrical and Computer Engineering in Medicine (ECEM) research group, a multidisciplinary team focused on biomedical signal processing, physiological monitoring, and closed-loop drug delivery systems. His research spans adaptive control, biomedical engineering, and pulp and paper process control.
Education: Diplôme d’Ingénieur (Paris, France), PhD (McGill University). He has held the Senior NSERC/Paprican Industrial Research Chair in Process Control (1989–1999) and is currently a Peter Wall Distinguished University Scholar. His work has earned prestigious awards, including the Brockhouse Canada Prize (2010), three NSERC Synergy Awards, and Fellowships from the Royal Society of Canada, IEEE, and BC Advanced Systems Institute.
Research Interests: Control systems, signal processing, biomedical applications (e.g., neonatal monitoring, anesthesia), and physiological monitoring in operating rooms and intensive care units. His team develops innovative technologies like the Phone Oximeter, a low-cost pulse oximeter for resource-limited settings.
Key Contributions: Over 30 years of advancing control theory applications in healthcare, including closed-loop anesthesia systems, real-time seizure detection, and non-invasive oxygenation monitoring. His work bridges engineering, medicine, and computer science to solve critical health challenges.
Affiliations: Advanced Materials Manufacturing Institute, ICICS (UBC’s computing research hub), BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute, and Women’s Health Research Cluster.
