Gustavo Goldman

Gustavo Goldman is a Professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto, University of São Paulo, and holds a Hans Fischer Senior Fellowship at the TUM Institute for Advanced Study (TUM-IAS) since 2019. His research focuses on fungal pathogenesis, particularly signal transduction mechanisms in Aspergillus fumigatus and carbon catabolite repression in filamentous fungi. He completed his BSc in Biology at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1983), MSc in Microbiology at University of São Paulo (1988), and PhD in Molecular Biology at Rijksuniversiteit Gent, Belgium (1993), followed by postdoctoral training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, USA (1994). He is a Category 1A Researcher at CNPq (Brazil) and a visiting Professor at the University of Minho and Nova University of Lisbon (Portugal).

His awards include membership in the American Academy of Microbiology (2017), a Guggenheim Fellowship (2007), and the São Paulo State Medal of Scientific Merit (2000). Research interests center on fungal virulence mechanisms and metabolic regulation. As part of the TUM-IAS Focus Group on 'Fungal Sensing and Signaling,' he collaborates on projects like the 'Fungal Sensing and Signaling of the Environment.' He serves as Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers in Microbiology (Fungi and their Interactions) and on editorial boards of mBio, Fungal Genetics and Biology, and Fungal Biology.

Key contributions include studies on Aspergillus fumigatus genome sequencing (2005) and mechanisms of catabolite repression. His work bridges molecular genetics, proteomics, and cell biology to understand fungal pathogenesis and stress responses.
