Guoqing Xia

Guoqing Xia is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Evolution, Infection and Genomics at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD and DrRerNat, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). His research focuses on bacterial cell surface molecules in drug-resistant pathogens, particularly mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in MRSA and phage-host interactions. He is an editor of FEMS Microbiology Letters and contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to antimicrobial resistance and healthcare.

Research Interests: MRSA resistance mechanisms, phage biology, bacterial glycobiology, and development of diagnostics/therapeutics for drug-resistant infections. Key projects include β-lactam resistance studies and phage applications.

Teaching: Current roles include teaching in MSc Medical Microbiology, MBChB Program, and supervising HSST DrClinSci in Microbiology. Past roles include Programme Director for MSc Medical Microbiology and leading courses in infection, diagnostics, and microbiology.

Activities: Active in conferences (e.g., Gordon Research Conference 2024) and academic examinations (e.g., PhD vivas). Published widely on MRSA, phages, and bacterial glycobiology.
