Guoqing Gao is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Applied Power Electronic Systems within the Faculty of Engineering and Science at Aalborg University, Denmark. His work focuses on power electronics for renewable energy integration, with specialization in offshore wind farms and HVDC systems.
His research centers on power system stability and converter control, particularly addressing oscillation identification in grid-tied converters, grid-forming strategies for severe disturbances, and coordinated protection schemes for offshore wind farms. Key methodologies include data-light algorithms for real-time stability assessment and discrete-time modeling for energy storage systems.
Recent publications (2023-2025) reveal a concentrated research trajectory in solving stability challenges for grid-connected power electronic systems, with increasing emphasis on multi-scale network dynamics and emergent complexity in renewable energy integration.
As Principal Investigator for the UCOMPASS project (Carlsberg Foundation, 2025-2028) and a PhD project on wind turbine converter control (2021-2024), he leads research on emergent complexity and protection coordination. He also contributes to industry-funded projects with Orsted A/S on wind power plant stability and data center power systems.
