Dr. Paul Judge is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Power-Electronics at the University of Edinburgh's School of Engineering, affiliated with the Institute for Energy Systems. His research focuses on advanced power converter technologies including Modular Multilevel Converters (MMCs), HVDC systems, and silicon carbide applications.
He leads projects on GW-scale MVDC systems using superconducting cables and optimization of SiC-based power modules for offshore wind turbines. His work enables higher efficiency power conversion through innovations in semiconductor applications and converter design, particularly for renewable energy integration and grid stability.
Dr. Judge has received the Eryl Cadawalar Davis Prize for excellence in electronics research. His current investigations include active gate-driving techniques for SiC MOSFETs and DC fault protection strategies for multilevel converters.
