Prof. Dr. Gunther Graßhoff is a Professor at the Institute for Social and Organizational Education at the University of Hildesheim. His work spans research, teaching, and leadership roles in social pedagogy, youth welfare, and educational infrastructure.
- Current research projects include SOBIS (funded by MWK Lower Saxony, 2025-2029) and GTSQual (2025-2028, funded by MWK Lower Saxony).
- He previously held professorships at Friedrich Schiller University Jena (2013-2014) and the University of Mainz (2005-2013).
Research Interests:
His scholarship focuses on social pedagogical client research, child and youth welfare, qualitative research methods, migration, and educational equity. His work interrogates how institutional infrastructures (e.g., full-day schools, childcare systems) interact with youth agency and professional practice.
Recent Publications:
2024 monograph Das Personal am Ganztag examines staffing challenges in full-day care. Articles in Soziale Arbeit, Forum Erziehungshilfe, and Sozial Extra analyze participatory approaches, transitions for care leavers, and the professionalization of lay educators in schools.
Projects:
As principal investigator, he leads the SOBIS project (2025-2029) on social and educational infrastructure and the Heimathafen project (2020-2023) supporting care leavers. Collaborations include institutions in Lower Saxony and international partners.
