Gunter Mussbacher is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at McGill University, where he has held the William Dawson Scholar position since 2017 and the INRIA International Chair since 2021. His research focuses on requirements engineering, model-driven development, and sustainability engineering. He has contributed significantly to standards like the User Requirements Notation (URN) and has led initiatives in standardization through ITU-T roles.
Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science (2010, University of Ottawa), MSc (1999, Simon Fraser University), and undergraduate studies at Technische Universität Graz. Professional activities include organizing major conferences like RE 2022 (Program Co-Chair), ICT4S 2023 (General Co-Chair), and serving on steering committees for RE conferences and MoDRE workshops.
Research Interests: Goal-oriented requirements engineering, aspect-oriented modeling, sustainability in software systems, and human values in technology. His work emphasizes practical applications in crisis management, regulatory compliance, and model-driven tools like jUCMNav and TouchCORE.
Awards include the Most Effective Reviewer Award at RE 2019 and Best Paper at ICMT 2018. He has authored over 100 publications in top venues like IEEE RE, MODELS, and ACM/IEEE conferences. Current activities include advancing AI-driven modeling tools and promoting sustainability in software engineering.
