Gunnel Hänsel Petersson is an Associate Professor and senior teacher in cariology at Malmö University's Faculty of Odontology. Her academic work focuses on dental caries research with particular emphasis on risk assessment methodologies and resilience factors in oral health.
Her research interests center around caries risk assessment, particularly using tools like Cariogram, and investigating factors that contribute to maintaining good oral health despite socioeconomic challenges. She examines caries risk factors across different populations, with recent work focusing on resilience among caries-free young adults living in low socioeconomic conditions in Sweden. Her approach integrates epidemiological methods with clinical dentistry to develop better preventive strategies.
Dr. Hänsel Petersson's publications demonstrate consistent research activity in dental caries epidemiology, with a notable shift toward understanding resilience factors in oral health in her more recent work. Her research spans clinical studies, systematic reviews, and epidemiological investigations, showing particular interest in how socioeconomic factors interact with biological determinants of oral health.
She is currently supervising a doctoral project titled Resilience among caries-free young adults living in low socioeconomic conditions in Sweden: a case-control study, indicating her ongoing commitment to understanding protective factors in oral health.
