Guisela Latorre is a Professor of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at The Ohio State University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary U.S. Latinx and Latin American art, with a specialization in Chicana/Latina feminism. She holds a Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2003), an M.A. in Art History from the University of Cincinnati (1995), and a B.S. in Fine Arts from the University of Southern Indiana (1993).
Her expertise includes Chicanx/Latin American muralism, graffiti studies, and the intersection of art with feminist and decolonial frameworks. Key works include Democracy on the Wall (2019) and Walls of Empowerment (2008), alongside co-curated exhibitions like ¡Murales Rebeldes! (2017). She has published extensively on topics such as Chicana/o artivism, digital art, and Indigenous visual representations.
Dr. Latorre has received grants including the Coca-Cola Critical Difference for Women Grant (2012) and the University of California Latino Research Grant (2005). Her teaching spans courses on U.S. Latina experiences, women and visual culture, and Chicana feminisms. Current projects include an anthology on the Border Art Workshop/Taller de Arte Fronterizo.
