Guillermina Seri is a Professor of Political Science and Chair of the Political Science Department at Union College. She holds affiliations with the Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) program and the Law and Humanities initiative. Her research focuses on democracy's crises, police politics, Latin American governance, and rights abuses in democratic contexts. She teaches courses such as Latin American Politics, Challenges to Democracy in Latin America, and Theories of Peace and War.
Dr. Seri earned a B.A. from the Catholic University of Córdoba (Argentina), an M.A. from FLACSO Buenos Aires, and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida. Her work bridges theoretical inquiry and empirical analysis, addressing themes like police violence, state crime, and democratic security frameworks.
Her recent scholarship highlights global police dynamics, pandemic-era citizenship rights, and state-citizen interactions in crises. Key themes across her articles include the intersection of security policies and democratic stability, with a focus on Argentina and Latin America. Her 2020–2025 work underscores systemic police abuse in democracies and pandemic-era governance challenges.
