Guillaume Ramstein is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics, Aarhus University. His research focuses on applying quantitative genetics and genomic approaches to plant breeding problems, with particular expertise in genomic prediction, genome-wide association studies, and precision breeding methodologies.
Dr. Ramstein's research interests center on statistical genetics and its application to crop improvement. His work spans multiple crop species including barley, perennial ryegrass, sorghum, and oats. He investigates how genomic information can be leveraged to improve breeding efficiency, with particular focus on multi-population approaches, causal variant identification, and in silico prediction of variant effects. His research has significant implications for developing more resilient and productive crop varieties.
His recent publications show a strong emphasis on genomic prediction methodologies, with several papers examining how training on related populations can improve prediction accuracy, particularly in smaller breeding populations. His work also explores the application of advanced computational approaches to variant effect prediction for precision plant breeding.
Dr. Ramstein is currently leading three major research projects:
- Phylogenomic discovery of beneficial variants for precision breeding in sorghum (2025)
- AVENUE - Breeding organic oats with high nutritional value (2025-2027)
- SIEVE: Selection of mutations by in silico and experimental variant effects for cool-season grasses (2021-2025)
He regularly teaches courses in Genetics and Breeding as well as Genomic Prediction in Animals and Plants, demonstrating his commitment to training the next generation of quantitative geneticists and plant breeders. His teaching spans from 2021 through 2023, indicating a consistent educational contribution to the field.
