Dr. Gudiseva Chandrasekher is an Associate Professor at South Dakota State University (SDSU), affiliated with the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions and the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He specializes in cell and molecular biology, focusing on growth factor and extracellular matrix (ECM) signaling in corneal and lens tissues. His research aims to develop novel therapeutic strategies for ocular diseases, including a patented ECM-based biomaterial for corneal wound healing and transplantation.
He teaches courses such as Pharmaceutical Biochemistry (PHA 323), Pathophysiology (PHA 352/353), and Advanced Biomedical Sciences (PHA 725). Dr. Chandrasekher mentors graduate and undergraduate students in their research and dissertation work. He has held NIH grants and served on multiple grant review panels, including the National Eye Institute. His professional memberships include the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Dr. Chandrasekher has contributed to academic governance through roles on the University Senate, College of Pharmacy Curriculum Committee, and University Academic Affairs. His research has been supported by grants from the South Dakota Board of Regents, SDSU, and the Saudi Arabia Cultural Mission.
