Guangnan Chen

Assoc. Prof. Guangnan Chen is an Associate Professor in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), specializing in sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, and agricultural machinery. He holds a PhD from the University of Sydney (1994) and has over 25 years of teaching experience, including courses on agricultural machinery, renewable energy, and precision technologies. His research focuses on optimizing energy use, mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, and developing sustainable agricultural practices through projects funded by organizations like the Cotton Research and Development Corporation and NSW DPI.

Professional memberships include the Board of Technical Section IV (Energy in Agriculture) at CIGR and the Australian Society for Engineering in Agriculture. He has authored four edited books and over 140 peer-reviewed publications. Current research interests include floating solar covers for evaporation mitigation, hydrogen production from agricultural waste, and microplastics in agricultural soils. He leads the Centre for Agricultural Engineering at USQ and has supervised numerous PhD students in areas like controlled traffic farming and biochar applications.

Key grants include projects on farm energy fact sheets (NSW DPI, 2021) and greenhouse gas emission calculators (Queensland Murray-Darling Committee, 2015). His work integrates engineering solutions with environmental sustainability, addressing challenges like energy efficiency and postharvest loss reduction.
