Dr Guan Lee serves as a Tutor in Architecture at the Royal College of Art, where he teaches within the School of Architecture on the ADS Theme, The Deindustrial Revolution (ADS6).
Dr Lee received his BSc in Architecture from McGill University, Montreal, Canada (1997), followed by an Architectural Association (AA) Diploma (1999) and an MSc in Landscape Urbanism (2003), also from the AA. He completed his PhD by Design (2013) at the Bartlett, University College London.
His research interests center on the essential connections between design processes, making, and physical place. Through his practice Grymsdyke Farm, Lee explores living/working arrangements that involve intimate engagement with materials and fabrication processes. His work spans both digital and analogue design approaches, emphasizing the integration of conceptual design with hands-on making.
Grymsdyke Farm, located in the Chilterns in Buckinghamshire approximately 35 miles northwest of London, functions as both residence and creative workspace. The property includes converted workshops and studios that facilitate experimental design and making activities, reflecting Lee's educational philosophy of connecting theoretical concepts with material practice.
