Gro Marte Strand

Gro Marte Strand is an Associate Professor in pedagogy at the Department of Teacher Education, Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She is a qualified teacher with several years of experience teaching at primary and secondary levels. As an active researcher, she contributes to multiple significant projects examining educational pathways across developmental stages.

Dr. Strand holds a master's degree in counseling and defended her doctoral thesis titled The transition to lower secondary school: Experiences and perspectives in 2020. Her educational background reflects her commitment to understanding educational processes from both theoretical and practical perspectives.

Her research interests focus on educational transitions, particularly examining how students experience movement between educational stages from kindergarten through upper secondary education. She investigates inclusion, adapted training, student participation, and school-home cooperation as critical factors in successful transitions. Her work employs qualitative methodology within a sociocultural theoretical framework, emphasizing the relational aspects of educational experiences.

Dr. Strand leads the research group Educational transitions, which includes members from both NTNU and DMMH. She participates in the Janus-modellen research project examining kindergarten-primary school collaboration, and the longitudinal study Det relasjonelle livet i Trondheimsskolen, which follows approximately 2,000 students from 7th grade through upper secondary completion.

Her extensive publication record demonstrates consistent focus on transition experiences across educational levels. She actively engages with educational practitioners through professional development activities and contributes to public discourse through media appearances discussing educational transitions and their implications for student development.
