Gro Hege Saltnes Urdal

Gro Hege Saltnes Urdal is an Associate Professor in the Department of Language, Literature, Mathematics and Interpreting. She specializes in Norwegian Sign Language, interpreting, and interpreter education. Her research focuses on intersubjectivity in interpreted events, interpreter education's societal role, and depiction in signed languages through the DEPICT project (2021-2025). She teaches courses like Sign Language Interpreting, Deafblind Interpreting, and Technology-mediated Interpreting.

Her research areas include deaf students' experiences in interpreter education, remote interpreting, and the role of deaf interpreters in the labor market. She leads the 'Sign Language, Interpreting, Linguistics and Communication' research group.

Recent publications explore interpreter professional identity, curriculum reform in interpreter education, and societal perceptions of deaf interpreters. She emphasizes inclusive communication practices and has contributed to early childhood communication strategies using sign systems.
