Dr. Grigory Smolentsev is a Researcher at the Paul Scherrer Institute, affiliated with the Center for Energy and Environmental Sciences and the Laboratory for Catalysis and Sustainable Chemistry. He specializes in pump-probe X-ray spectroscopy, focusing on photocatalysis, artificial photosynthesis, and OLED materials.
- Habilitation in Physical and Mathematical Science (2019), Southern Federal University
- Ph.D. in Physical and Mathematical Science (2006), Rostov State University
- MSc and BSc in Physics (2003, 2001), Rostov State University
His research bridges theoretical and experimental X-ray absorption/emission spectroscopy to study short-lived excited states in molecular materials for solar energy conversion and photo-induced processes in catalytic systems. He has advanced time-resolved laser pump-X-ray probe techniques at SLS beamlines and SwissFEL.
His recent X-ray spectroscopy publications (2025–2021) explore detector technology, photocatalytic mechanisms, C-H bond activation, and perovskite dynamics, leveraging synchrotron and free-electron laser facilities.
Scientific Awards:
- International X-ray Absorption Society Award (Farrel Lytle prize)
He has led institutional projects to develop time-resolved spectroscopy strategies for SLS 2.0 and supports internal/external user groups in operando experiments.
