Gretchen Hofmeister is a Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry at Carleton College, where she has held a faculty position since 2002, teaching core and advanced chemistry courses while mentoring undergraduate research.
She earned her PhD from the University of California-Berkeley, establishing her foundation in chemical sciences before joining Carleton's academic community.
Her research expertise centers on Organic Chemistry synthesis and Spectroscopic Analysis, directly reflected in her instruction of Organic Chemistry I/II (CHEM 233/234) and Spectrometric Characterization (CHEM 306). This work emphasizes molecular structure determination, reaction mechanisms, and advanced instrumentation techniques for compound analysis.
Through Directed Research (CHEM 394) and Chemistry Research (CHEM 300) courses, she provides hands-on research supervision to undergraduate students, though specific advisee names and grant details remain unlisted in available records.
