Gregory Welch is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Calgary. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Calgary (2003) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Windsor (2008). His research focuses on organic conjugated molecules, organometallic catalysis, thin-film materials, and device fabrication. Key projects include organic solar cells, printed electronics, and CO₂ conversion technologies. He has been recognized with awards such as the Killam Emerging Research Leader Award (2021) and the Teaching Excellence Award (2020). His work emphasizes sustainable materials and green solvent processing for large-scale applications like photovoltaics and sensors.
His research group, the AFMC LAB, develops advanced materials for energy conversion, sensors, and optoelectronic devices. Notable contributions include N-annulated perylene diimide compounds for photovoltaics and electrochromic devices. Recent publications highlight advancements in organic solar cell efficiency, CO₂ reduction catalysts, and flexible electronic sensors.
