Gregory S. Aaen, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology and Pediatrics at Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He specializes in pediatric neurology with a focus on multiple sclerosis (MS). His research investigates environmental and genetic risk factors for pediatric MS, including vitamin D receptor binding, lipid biomarkers, and epigenetic aging. He leads multiple NIH-funded studies and clinical trials involving diet, genetics, and new therapies for pediatric demyelinating diseases.
Education: MD from Loma Linda University (2003), MA from Loma Linda University (2000), BS from Pacific Union College (1995). Primary affiliations include LLU Department of Neurology and the Network of Pediatric MS Centers. He has authored over 70 peer-reviewed articles on pediatric MS epidemiology, clinical outcomes, and therapeutic efficacy.
Key research areas include:
- Environmental triggers like vitamin D deficiency and household chemical exposure
- Gene-environment interactions in disease susceptibility
- Clinical trial design for pediatric MS treatments
- Cognitive and developmental impacts of early-onset MS
Current grants include NIH-funded studies on Epstein-Barr virus interactions, diet and relapse prevention, and longitudinal MS cohort analysis. No formal students listed but collaborates extensively with postdocs and junior researchers.
