معرفی
Dr. Gregory Quiroz is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and a Staff Scientist at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL). He holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Southern California (2013) and B.S. degrees in Physics and Applied Mathematics from the University of California, Riverside (2007). His career includes prior work at The Aerospace Corporation (2013-2016) focused on quantum key distribution and algorithm development.
Research Focus
Dr. Quiroz leads the Quiroz Quantum Information Science Research Group, specializing in quantum computing and sensing. His research emphasizes scalable techniques for noise characterization, quantum control, and algorithm robustness. Key areas include:
- Quantum Characterization: Modeling spatiotemporally correlated noise using machine learning and spectroscopy.
- Quantum Control: Developing hardware-agnostic protocols for error suppression in gates and sensors.
- Quantum Algorithms: Enhancing noise resilience in variational algorithms and quantum simulations.
Publications
His recent work (2022-2025) focuses on mitigating noise in quantum systems, with themes spanning crosstalk-resistant control, zero-noise extrapolation for sensing, non-Markovian noise modeling, and quantum speedup demonstrations. Articles frequently integrate machine learning, optimal control theory, and experimental validations on superconducting/trapped-ion platforms.
Teaching and Advising
Dr. Quiroz teaches Applied Quantum Information at JHU. He advises multiple students, including doctoral candidates (e.g., Rocio Gonzalez, Will Watkins) and undergraduates. Former advisees hold positions at institutions like Yale and the University of Connecticut.
Group Leadership
He directs a research group investigating error management in quantum devices, with projects funded through JHU/APL collaborations. Current work targets noise-robust quantum advantage in optimization and sensing.
